Upload your brain? Never die?

This article is about "connectomics" which is the study of the connections in your brain. Scientists now are busy trying to map all the different connections in the human brain so that one day they may be able to "copy" your brain.

Do you think that will be possible? Are you only the sum of all the connections in your brain? If you could copy your "connectome" and upload that to a robot body and live forever, would you want to?

Or do you believe in a soul that is separate from your neural connections in your brain?

What are you? Your brain? Your "heart"? Your soul?

If you could upload your connectome with all your memories and thoughts...would that still be you?

Review: "Shazam" by Selin

I like the iPhone app "Shazam". When you hear a song that you like, but you don't remember the name or the artist, Shazam can identify the name, album, and artist of the song for you. You can find quick links to the iTunes Store and YouTube, you can share songs via email, fb, twitter, and you can see lyrics. Oh, and it is free!

Mitt Romney to Announce Vice Presidential Pick via iPhone App; Obama Campaign Releases New App

Are you interested in the American presidential election process? Or are you already bored by it?


Some people like politics and others don't. Do you think as a visitor or immigrant in the United States that you should know something about our political process?


Apparently both of the two candidates for Pres. have now released separate iPhone application to promote themselves.


And the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, will soon announce his vice presidential candidate through his iPhone app. The vice president is the second person after the president, they take over the responsibility if the president gets sick or dies.

7 Bilingual iPhone and iPad Apps for Kids

This article made me think about two questions....

First, at what age do you think you can give a child an iPhone or iPad to play with? Is 2  years old too young? Is three years old too young? What's your opinion? I have seen many parents give young children their iPhones to keep them busy on the subway. 

Second, what do you think is the best way to raise bilingual children in the United States? If you already have children what are you doing to make sure your children speak English and your native language?

Which parent speaks which language and when? Do you allow your children to answer you in English if you speak to them in your own language?

Bird Flu Jumps into Seals. Could Humans Be Next?

Avian flu has been a growing problem for many years. The fear has always been that the virus might mutate and would be able to be transferred from birds to humans.

Now we have an example of the virus moving from birds to other mammals, in this case seals.

Are you concerned about this? Or would you prefer not to think about it at all? If there's nothing that we can really do to prevent the problem, would you prefer to know or not know about it?

Did you know the virus that caused the 1918 "Spanish Flu" which eventually killed almost 50,000,000 people worldwide was another form of avian, or "bird" flu?
