My favorite iphone app is called "Pic Collage".
After taking pictures with my iPhone, I usually use this app to organize pictures I have taken, then I send it my friends or put it on Facebook. I like this app because people can see more than 2 pictures at once. It's free also.

Having a smart phone (iPhone or android) with a data (and texting) plan greatly increases your chance of being accepted. You will need it to fully participate in the class work.

This article is about "connectomics" which is the study of the connections in your brain. Scientists now are busy trying to map all the different connections in the human brain so that one day they may be able to "copy" your brain.

Do you think that will be possible? Are you only the sum of all the connections in your brain? If you could copy your "connectome" and upload that to a robot body and live forever, would you want to?

I like the iPhone app "Shazam". When you hear a song that you like, but you don't remember the name or the artist, Shazam can identify the name, album, and artist of the song for you. This article made me think about two questions....

First, at what age do you think you can give a child an iPhone or iPad to play with? Is 2  years old too young? Is three years old too young? What's your opinion? I have seen many parents give young children their iPhones to keep them busy on the subway. 

Second, what do you think is the best way to raise bilingual children in the United States? If you already have children what are you doing to make sure your children speak English and your native language?

Which parent speaks which language and when? Do you allow your children to answer you in English if you speak to them in your own language?

Avian flu has been a growing problem for many years. The fear has always been that the virus might mutate and would be able to be transferred from birds to humans.

Now we have an example of the virus moving from birds to other mammals, in this case seals.

Are you concerned about this? Or would you prefer not to think about it at all? If there's nothing that we can really do to prevent the problem, would you prefer to know or not know about it?

Did you know the virus that caused the 1918 "Spanish Flu" which eventually killed almost 50,000,000 people worldwide was another form of avian, or "bird" flu?
